Pre-Mission: Israel, the next 70 years by Noa Marcus

Seventy, LXX in Roman Numerals,  ע in Hebrew Gematria, or the age of Israel in 2018. In its 70 years, Israel has come so far as a nation and made a place for itself in the world unlike any other country of its size or age. What was once the dream of Theodore Herzl and other early Zionists, is a reality today that surpassed the goals and expectations of that time. Against all odds Israel has become not only the homeland of the Jewish people but a country of great accomplishments in many fields.

Israel is known for it technology and high-tech industries. Israel is 60% desert so Israeli technological advancements have lead to the creation of key agricultural methods increasing production of crops in the country. These High-tech developments don’t just stay in Israel, Israeli inventions from the USB to cherry tomatoes are popular all around the world. Israel’s medical discoveries and development of life-saving treatments and drugs are improving the lives of millions of people across the globe everyday. In today’s world of environmental decline and the shrinking supply of natural resources, Israel is a leading part in the fight for a cleaner world though seawater desalination and production of solar energy.

In its short 70 years, Israel has come so far and has become a place that the Jewish people can call home with great pride. I can’t wait to see the power of Israeli innovation on our trip. It will be an amazing experience. May the next 70 years be filled with more innovation, success and peace.
