Pre-Mission: Expectation from our mission theme: “Food by Sammy Rose

The first things I think of when thinking about Israeli food are probably a few of the most common: falafel, Israeli salad, hummus, and pita. While I’m sure we’ll be eating a lot of this food, we’re also going to be eating foods that can’t be found in the US, starting with our reflection of Israeli ice cream and popsicles. Although they have all of the typical ice cream flavors like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and Netanyahu’s favorite, pistachio, they also have other unique combinations like hummus ice cream topped with olive oil and pine nuts and popsicles like chocolate sea salt and strawberry basil. I look forward to trying new flavors of popsicles such as pomegranate with lemon and nana, orange and chocolate and citrus with arak, pineapple-chili, avocado, roasted coconut, and jalapeno-lime and guava to name a few. On Thursday, we get the chance to try some Russian food with Vadim Blumin who we got to meet when he came to Cleveland to do a seminar with us. That night we get to reunite with our Israeli friends and have a Masterchef style dinner, which will be really fun. The day I’m looking forward to most is next Sunday. Next Sunday, we will be taking a tour of the Elite Chocolate Factory, which is hands-down my favorite Israeli food. As we travel to our last city, Tel Aviv, we take a tour of the Strauss Dairy Factory, and get to have lunch with Sarit Zahavi, who also came to do a session with us in Cleveland. We end the day with dinner on the beach before we head to our concert, and just like that day eight is over. We start day nine with a nice bike ride on the beach, followed by a review of some coffee houses, one of my personal favorite things. One of the last things we all get to do together is take a tour of the Machne Yehuda Market as we say goodbye to our friends and go our separate ways. And there it is; the best ten days of my life.
