After a nice night with plenty of sleep, I was all ready to begin the day with a trip to a museum. We visited the National Museum of Israel and had a really productive and fun time. I had the pleasure of having Vadim Blumin as my tour guide, who offered some wonderful insight into this museum. As I first entered the museum I was greeted by a giant wall of the visible light spectrum. The colors were so vibrant and ascetically pleasing. I wondered why a museum about Israel would have this as its first exhibit. Vadim was able to offer a very nice explanation. He said that all these colors are very simplistic and universal. No matter who you are or where you’re from, you can understand this exhibit. It makes people happy and prepares them for the rest of the museum. Next we went to the Israeli art gallery. Personally, I am not a huge art fan or understand the appeal of it. With Vadim as my guide, my entire outlook on the situation shifted. Vadim told us to choose a couple pieces of art and try to depict their messages. One particular picture really caught my eye. It was a triptych which describes Zionism. The first picture was some angels doing work and blowing the shofar; this describes redemption. The third picture was of Jerimiah and showing his sadness of being exiled from the land of Israel. The second and biggest picture was the Jews in Israel thriving and having a great time. After the art gallery we were allowed to tour the museum by ourselves. I decided to look at some archaeology and was happy that I did. I saw ancient sarcophagi, humans and even a fossilized elephant tusk. The museum was full of great opportunities and my only regret is not being able to do more. This was a great trip and would love to do it again!
