Day 10 (6.28.2016): Bike ride through Tel Aviv by Adam Marcus

Walking out of the hotel this morning I was thinking to myself I wonder what it will be like to ride a bike through a busy city.  I have taken numerous bike rides on residential streets in the suburbs of Cleveland, but I’ve never experienced a ride in a big city before.  We began at 7:30am by stepping outside of our hotel where we met the bikes and our tour guide.  When we arrived all of the bikes and helmets were lined up waiting for us to use them.   Figuring out which helmet and bike were right was a bit of a process, as there were many different sizes.  A few members of our group hadn’t ridden in a while and were a little rusty and decided not to ride with us.  After all of this preparation we were finally on out way.  It was a slow start, with constant stoping and starting as we made our way through a number of crosswalks, fighting the heavy city traffic.  We continued to ride through the city and eventually arrived at the Jaffe port where we proceeded to ride along water.  The sun was shining and the air was unbearably humid for a bike ride, but the consistent light breeze made the ride rather enjoyable.  The ride was very peaceful allowing us to enjoy the sound of small light blue waves in the ocean come on to the shore. After riding for a while we stopped to take a break, drink some water, take in the view and have a chance to take photos with each other in front of the water.  Finally, after about an hour in the extreme heat and humidity we concluded our ride.  Taking a bike tour was a different, but enjoyable way to tour around Tel Aviv and view the Mediterranean Sea, and I can’t wait to do another city bike tour again sometime soon.
