Shuk Hacarmel by Mackenzie Ecker

Today we went to our second and last Shuk of the trip. I especially enjoyed the fact that there were more shopping opportunities here versus the one we went to in Jerusalem. The very first thing we did when we got off the bus was get lunch. I heard they had pasta so I was all in. Although people were bullying me because of it, I didn’t let that affect my choice. On the way to food, we stopped at a shop that had really pretty souvenirs. I got my mom a hamsa keychain with an evil eye because she asked for it (It’s a secret shh). After eating the best pasta ever, I bought a necklace from a little jewelry stand which had the perfect hamsa for me. We met up with the rest of our group to interview people about their opinion of home. Our first interviewee was one of Ilan’s friends and the second was two girls who happened to be around our age. In between the interviews we were asked by people from London if they could pretend to give us a tour for some video that is for the program they are in. On the way back to our bus,  we stopped at some stores to get gifts for family members and friends. We sadly had to end our Shuk endeavors but I was able to get more exposure to the Israeli lifestyle through a different lens.
